The theme for the conference is “Open and Distance Learning, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) Engagement”. In line with the aspirations of CESA, the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) has embarked on a number of initiatives geared at ensuring that, the strengths of ODL are harnessed towards the achievement of both the strategic focus of CESA (2016-2025) and ultimately the SDG 4.

The conference is expected to be addressed by Special Guest of Honour His Excellency Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His leadership led to the establishment of one of the biggest open universities in Africa, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
